Every idea should be visualized for non-verbal communication to the project team, the client or during user tests for it to flow into the idea generation and evaluation process as well as into the documentation of the project. These can be post-it scribbles, rendered drawings, photos, videos, CAD mock-ups or rudimentary prototypes. In addition to functions, materials and forms, storyboards and mood pictures can also be used to show the user's emotional added value and the entire user experience or current pain points in the user journey.
Visual storytelling, narrative mood & storyboards are an essential part of Human Centered Design and serve as visual prototypes for user experiences, services or entire processes. Sequential drawings, photos and videos tell stories and create scenarios that help determine or verify behavior, interactions and emotional reactions.
In addition, it is also a good way to transport an idea, a future product or an early design concept into an atmospheric environment or situation.
